Bird Nest Cookies

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups
1 1/2 cups nuts, chopped very fine
Cream butter.
Add sugar then egg yolks, vanilla, salt, and flour.
Shape into balls and dip in egg whites.
Roll in nuts.
Place about 1 inch apart and bake at 350 for 8 minutes.
Take out at once and poke a hole in the middle with a thimble.
Bake for another 6-8 minutes.
Cool completely.
Fill with jam.
{i like strawberry or raspberry best}
{jam can be added before baking the second time.}
